  2. Please remember Ergin and all our veterans this Memorial Day.
That's why we celebrate Memorial Day with parades--not store sales.
May we thank God--and always remember our fallen heroes.

  5. We hear about brave men and women losing their lives overseas all the time these days, and it always hurts to hear about it. Every now and then it happens to be someone we know, or in this case, someone I served with. We were in the same platoon together in the Marines. 2ND Battalion 8th Marines Fox Company 3rd Platoon. I'm not sure when exactly he joined the Army though. He was always smiling, and was one heck of a Marine. He loved shooting, he was in outstanding shape, he was sharp, friendly, and loved socializing. He loved serving, loved his country, loved his fellow Marines (and I'm sure his fellow soldiers as well), and was just a great all around guy. He trained his junior Marines hard, but would take a bullet for any one of them. I want you all to know that those are the type of men (and women) that are out there for our country, for all of us. RIP Osman, and to the other soldiers who died that day with him. - Cpl Johnson, USMC (2001 - 2005)

  9. I remember you influencing young Marines, telling stories where they'd gather around to hear what you were talking about... Everyone was intrigued and inspired by your confidence and your demeanor. You know people like you when they give you a hard time or joke about you in a good way... In that sense, I still wear my Oz pajamas and so do Chuck Norris and Clarke Kent. You will be missed brother.

We did it all man, this brother of mines and to many others was awesome, I love you man The times we spent together back in Jacks, the time we trained for hours on in shooting just for fun. How we used to laugh and lose our minds of hurry up and wait. You will be missed your spirit will always be with every Marine and solider you came into contact with. Thank you for teaching me and giving back the Marine Corps spirit that i had lost since returning back home from Afghanistan, 04, 05. You was a Marines Marine, I'm sorry to those that will read this, the are just not enough words to describe this Marine and Solider, you will always be with me. Remember the OZ!

  11. It's heartbreaking every time to learn of a soldiers death. Although I don't know Staff Sgt Osman, I thank him and his family for the sacrifice he made for our country. My son-in-law is in Korea and will end up in Afghanistan soon enough I'm sure. I pray every day for the safety of our troops! GOD BLESS AMERICA. Happy Memorial Day.

  17. Osman was one of my Marines in 3/8 in during operations in Kosovo and Macedonia. He was a ball of laughs, and while a big clown...was always a hard charger. Spit shined boots and pressed cammies were common with him. He's one of the many marines in my plattoon that I will never forget...it hurts to tears seeing this prior marine killed...if you can see this from above, love you brother...

  22. I knew Ergin Osman when he was in high school, in Stockbridge, MA, in the early 1990's. Incredibly, he is the first person I've known personally who has been killed in action.

The comments I see here, written by men who served with him, seem very in keeping with the 16 or 17 year old I worked with almost 2 decades ago. When I knew him, Ergin was having a rough time. Still, it was notable then how much his friends cared about him. In fact, I heard about his death from one of his high school friends, who's stayed in touch over the years.

I'm also not surprised to see that he was a Marine, and later in the 101st. He was a tough kid, in a good way, when I knew him. Tough and stubborn too, but I think you've probably got to be that way to make it in those outfits. I expect that as he got older, and served his country, "stubborn" became things like "dedicated," "committed," and "reliable."

I hope that his time in the Marine Corps and Army were good times for Ergin, and I am incredibly sad to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and the men in his unit. May you rest in peace Ergin. Thank you for your service and your sacrifice.
