Commando officer, Lt. Oliver Augustin

British Commando officer, Lieutenant Oliver Richard Augustin, serving with 42 Commando Royal Marines, was killed on 27th May 2011 when an improvised explosive device (homemade bomb) was detonated while he was on patrol.

The incident occurred in the Loy Mandeh area of Nad-e-Ali, Helmand province.

Known as Ollie to his friends, and 'Boss' to his men, Lt. Augustin began officer training in September 2009 and passed fit for duty in December 2010.

His first appointment was in Command of Fire Support Group, Juliet Company, 42 Commando Royal Marines. He leaves behind his father Sean, his mother Jane and his sister Sarah.

  1. Ollie was and will always be a close friend of our family. He will be greatly missed and he leaves a void in the lives of all that had the pleasure of knowing him. Our deepest sympathy goes out to Jane, Sean and Sarah.

    We will always remember you are are better individuals for having had you touch our lives.
