US Army Sergeant Kevin White

US Army Sergeant Kevin White, aged 22, from Westfield in Chautauqua County, New York was killed in Afghanistan on Monday 2nd May 2011 when a roadside bomb exploded near his patrol.

Sgt. White was an Army squad leader for an infantry unit stationed east of Kabul near the Pakistan border. He had only been in Afghanistan for a little more than three weeks.

Sgt. White graduated from Westfield Academy in 2006. The school superintendent says his death is being felt throughout the entire community.

"Kevin was well-liked in the community, he was very active at the First Baptist Church, in the youth group. We had students here today that know Kevin and we are all heart-broke by this tragedy," said Superintendent Mark Sissel.

  1. SGT Kevin White will truly be missed. I remember pulling tower guard with him on our tour in Iraq. He was a shy younger Soldier, but he would open up and talk about all the people he missed back in New York and his plans for R&R leave. He missed his small community and always talked about how supportive his family was. It is a loss that will be felt amongst the Ranks of the Infantry and he will not be forgotten.

  2. SGT Kevin White- R.I.P brother! Thanks for your service and the ultimate sacrifice that you have made for your country. I will never forget those first days in Germany, you were a great help in getting me to know the Baumholder area. Also you always had something funny to say eveytime I seen you around at good ol' C.O.P. Cahill in sunny Iraq! I seen you grow in the ranks from a private in Germany to becoming an outstanding leader in Hawaii with the "Cacti" batallion. You were taken from your family and your brothers in arms way early. You will not be forgotten. My prayers go to your family and you my infantry brother!
