German Army Corporal Sergey Motz

German Army Corporal Sergey Motz, age 21, was killed in Kunduz, Afghanistan on 29th April 2009 when insurgent forces attacked his unit.

Cpl. Motz, serving with 292 Military Police died from a rocket propelled grenade blast.

Norwegian Captain, Trond Petter Kolset

Captain Trond Petter Kolset
Norwegian officer, Captain Trond Petter Kolset, aged 30 and serving with Military Intelligence, was killed 17th April 2009 in Maymana, Afghanistan.

Captain Kolset, who had been in Afghanistan only one month, was riding in a car on his way to camp when a suicide bomber drove a car packed with explosives straight at the column of Norwegian vehicles.

He was airlifted by helicopter to a German Field Hospital at Mazar-i-Sharif.

Romanian Army officer, Captain Vasile Unguras

Romanian Army officer, Captain Vasile Unguras, was killed 7th April 2009 by a roadside bomb, 20km from Kalat, on the main Kandahar-Kabul highway.

Capt. Unguras was leading the patrol of four Humvee vehicles. His vehicle drove over the hidden bomb and it exploded beneath his vehicle.

Aged 32, married with two children, Capt. Ungurus served with the Romanian 21st Mountain Battalion.

Dutch soldier killed in rocket attack

A Dutch soldier was killed and five injured in a rocket attack on the Dutch army base of Kamp Holland in Afghanistan 5th April 2009.

Azdin Chadli (20) had only been in Uruzgan for a week. He is the 19th Dutch soldier to have been killed in Afghanistan since the Netherlands joined the international forces there.

The five injured soldiers, all aged between 19 and 24, are said to be in a stable condition.

According to the defence ministry, four rockets were fired at the camp, probably by Taliban forces. One rocket hit the camp centre, one hit a nearby Afghan army base, slightly injuring two, and the others missed their targets.

Romanian Special Forces Captain, Petre Tiberius

Romanian Special Forces Captain, Petre Tiberius, was killed in a fierce gun battle with Taliban insurgents on 3rd April 2009.

Serving with 'The Eagles' Special Operations Battalion, Captain Tiberius and his unit responded to a call for reinforcements to help other units under fire.

When they arrived, the battle intensified with much small-arms and rocket propelled grenade fire.

The Captain was shot during the battle. Despite emergency medical aid, he died from his wounds.

He leaves a wife and a one-year-old daughter.
