Lance Sergeant András Dálnoki

Hungarian Army Lance Sergeant András Dálnoki, was killed on 17th May 2011 when the armoured vehicle he was in overturned while on patrol in Baghlan province, Afghanistan.

LSgt. Dálnoki, the turret gunner of the vehicle, died at the scene of the crash.

The convoy of five vehicles was conducting a logistic transport mission and was on its way from Mazar-e Sharif to Pol-e Khomri, when an Afghan vehicle turned onto the main road from a secondary road, the Hungarian Defence Minister said.

The convoy began to overtake the vehicle. While overtaking, the third vehicle in the convoy had an accident when the driver – for reasons still unclear – swerved to the left. The special armoured M-RAP MaxxPro (mine resistant ambush protected) vehicle hit the left shoulder and overturned.

A female soldier inside the vehicle, Sergeant Orsolya Róth, died later in hospital from her injuries. Four other soldiers were injured in the incident.

RIP soldier. A tragic, sad loss of life. I never knew you, but I will remember you.
