US Army Specialist Christopher D. Horton, from Collinsville, was one of three Oklahoma National Guard servicemen killed in action on 9th September 2011 in Paktia, Afghanistan, during an engagement with enemy forces involving small-arms fire.
26-year-old Spc. Horton joined the Oklahoma National Guard in 2008 and was qualified as a sniper. He was serving with the 1st Battalion, 279th Infantry Regiment, based in Tulsa. This was his first deployment to Afghanistan.
The other soldiers killed in the same incident were: Sgt. Bret Isenhower and Pfc. Tony Potter.
Chris worked at the United States Shooting Academy in Tulsa. He helped set up stages for U.S.P.S.A. and Pro-Am matches. The last time I spoke to Chris we shot a few of my "special" rifles at the 300 yard range. He told me he was about to deploy and qualified as a sniper.
ReplyDeleteChris was excited and ready to serve! I told him if I were younger, single and had no kids, I would go with him! I am proud to have known Chris! His service is very much appreciated and he will always be an American Hero to those of us who knew him! My heartfelt condolences to his family. Steve Marx
I don't really know Chris, I met his brother in law Ricky on Friday the day he found out about Chris! I am sending prayers to him and his family! I served for 13 years and know how it is for these soldiers overseas! It takes a very brave person to give your life for your country! Russ Strycharz
