US Army Pfc. Douglas Jeffries Jr.

US Army Private 1st Class Douglas J. Jeffries Jr, from Springville, California, was one of two 10th Mountain Division soldiers killed in action on 8th September 2011 when an insurgent bomb detonated while they were on patrol. The incident happened in Kandahar.

20-year-old Pfc. Jeffries joined the Army in November 2009 and deployed to Afghanistan in March this year. He served with the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, based at Fort Drum, New York.

He graduated from Porterville High School in 2009. School Principal, Connie Owens, commented to local news, "It takes a special kind of individual to serve his country and I believe he was that kind of individual." Pfc. Jeffries was the son of Doug Jeffries of Springville and Evelyn Jeffries of Las Vegas.

The other soldier killed was Spc. Koran P. Contreras.

  3. Doug Jeffries was a great man, His dad and I have been very good friends sence 1975,I have known DJ sence he born, He will be missed, but never forgeton
