US Marine Corporal Michael C. Nolen died in Helmand province on 27th June 2011 while on combat operations in the area.
The 22-year-old Marine, from Spring Valley, Wisconsin, served with the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Cpl. Nolen joined the Marines in November 2007 and was promoted in December 2009. He deployed to Afghanistan in March this year. His awards include the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
Mike is truly a hero. He was killed making Afghanistan safer for others. Thank you, Nolen family, for your sacrifice. No tribute can ease your pain, and no amount of thank yous will safice.
