US Special Forces Staff Sgt. Martin Apolinar

US Special Forces Staff Sergeant Martin R. Apolinar, aged 28, was killed in Wardak province, Afghanistan on 29th May 2011 from injuries sustained by a bomb blast.

SSgt. Apolinar, from Glendale, Arizona, served with the 3rd Special Forces Group, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

SSgt. Apolinar served previously in Iraq and holds a Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart among other decorations. He leaves his wife Elisa, son Martin and parents Gene and Susan.

  1. Brother... I still remember you as a young PFC with a smile always on your face. You were a M240B gunner when we deployed together for OIF 2. You were always very motivated and ready to do anything asked of you to complete a mission. Everyone always knew you were going to do great things for the military and your country. There really are no words to describe how it feels to lose not only a great friend, but a brother in arms. You will be missed and your sacrifice will never be forgotten. My most sincere condolences go out to "Apo's" family including little Martin Apolinar, and the men that have had the honor to serve next to a great man and true warrior. I will see you on the other side brother...
