US Army Sergeant Joshua D. Powell from Quitman, Texas was killed in action in Laghman province, Afghanistan on 4th June 2011. Sgt. Powell and three colleagues were killed by the blast from a homemade bomb when his unit was on patrol.
Sgt. Powell, age 28, served with the 793rd Military Police Battalion, based in Alaska. He had been in the army for eight years and this deployment was his fifth tour of duty.
Family members described Sgt. Powell as "the life of the party. He loved his country and he loved what he was doing. We're very proud of him."
