Two Spanish soldiers killed by bomb blast

Two Spanish soldiers have been killed by a bomb blast in Afghanistan, and another three were injured, when their armoured vehicle hit an improvised explosive device today, Sunday 26th June 2011.

The soldiers were on a reconnaissance patrol when the blast occurred about 20 kilometres (12 miles) north of Qala i Naw city in the northwestern province of Badghi, the Spanish Defence Ministry said.

The injured were evacuated by helicopter to a hospital in the village of Bala Murghab. They suffered broken bones and bruises in the explosion.

The two were named as: Sergeant Manuel Argudin Perrino and Infantry soldier Niyireth Pineda Marin.
