26 year old British Army Corporal Michael John Pike from Huntly, Scotland, was killed in action in Afghanistan on Friday 3rd June 2011.
Cpl. Pike was part of an operation to prevent insurgents from intimidating the local population and attacking an Afghan Police Check Point on Highway 601. He was leading a patrol that was fired on by enemy forces with rocket propelled grenades and machine guns when he was killed in action.
Cpl. Pike, of The Highlanders, 4th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (4 SCOTS), joined the army in 2002 and had previously served in Iraq.
Cpl. Pike, described as a "loving and caring family man", leaves behind a wife, Ida, and two children, Joshua and Evelynn.

His wife, Ida, said: "My husband would want everybody to know that he died doing a job he loved and that he loved our children with all his heart and soul".
His comrades said that he "didn't go down without putting up a fight".
