US Army Specialist Robert Tauteris Jr.

Indiana National Guard Specialist Robert J. Tauteris Jr., age 44, from Hamlet, Indiana, was one of four US soldiers killed in action in Kandahar on 6th January 2012 from the blast of an enemy bomb.

Spc. Tauteris, who grew up in North Judson, was called "Bobby" by his family. Before joining the National Guard, he often worked 7 days a week to provide for his two sons, Robert III and Matthew. He had been in Afghanistan since October and was scheduled to come home on two weeks leave in May.

Also killed were:
Staff Sgt. Jonathan Metzger, Spc. Christopher Patterson and Spc. Brian Leonhardt

All were members of the 713th Engineer Company, assigned to 81st Troop Command.
