US Marine Corporal Kevin Reinhard

25-year-old US Marine Corporal Kevin J. Reinhard was one of six Marines killed on 19th January 2012 when their helicopter crashed in Helmand province. He joined the Marine Corps in the spring of 2008, interrupting his college studies to do so.

"He felt he needed to do something more, something better with his life than what he felt he was doing," his sister told the Daily Record. "He wanted to serve his country, so he left school and enlisted."

He joined the Hawaii-based Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 363 in September 2009 and deployed with the unit to Afghanistan in August last year. This was his second combat tour.

Corporal Reinhard's awards include Air Medal (3), Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal and NATO ISAF Medal.
