A US soldier was killed on Sunday 8th January 2011 when a man in an Afghan army uniform opened fire on a group of Americans at a base in southern Afghanistan, an Afghan military spokesman said today.
Spokesman General Mohammad Zahir Azimi said the gunman was also killed in the shootout on Sunday. "Right now, an investigation is going on to determine whether he really was a soldier or someone using an army uniform." Azimi said.
ISAF issued a statement saying that a coalition soldier had been killed on Sunday but did not release the nationality or the identity of the victim.
The soldier has been named as Pfc. Dustin Napier
