Indiana National Guard Sergeant Brian J. Leonhardt, age 21, from Merrillville, Indiana, was one of four US soldiers killed in action in Kandahar on 6th January 2012 from the blast of an enemy bomb.
Sgt. Leonhardt's three brothers also serve with the Indiana National Guard and have all previously to Iraq though not Afghanistan. Spc. Leonhardt deployed to Afghanistan last October and had secretly married his girlfriend before he left, his father told the Chicago Tribune.
Brian is survived by his wife Dianne, his parents Marie and Robert Leonhardt, two sisters and three brothers.
Note: Spc. Leonhardt was posthumously promoted to the rank of Sergeant, Indiana National Guard Staff Sgt. Lesley Newport said in a statement made on 11th January. "Army regulation and tradition allow a soldier who is in line for promotion to receive the honor." Newport said.

Staff Sgt. Jonathan Metzger, Spc. Christopher Patterson and Spc. Robert Tauteris Jr.
All were members of the 713th Engineer Company, assigned to 81st Troop Command.
