US Army Staff Sergeant Jonathan Metzger

Indiana National Guard Staff Sgt. Jonathan M. Metzger, age 32, from Indianapolis, was one of four US soldiers killed in action in Kandahar on 6th January 2012 from the blast of an enemy bomb.

Staff Sgt. Jonathan Metzger had spent eight years in the Marine Corps. He planned on a military career and was studying for the rank of Master Sergeant. He was six weeks into a nine-month tour of duty in Afghanistan. This was his second overseas combat deployment, having previously served in Iraq for one year.

Also killed were:
Spc. Christopher Patterson, Spc. Robert Tauteris Jr. and Spc. Brian Leonhardt

All were members of the 713th Engineer Company, assigned to 81st Troop Command.
