U.S Marine, Sgt. Mathew J. Deyoung

Sgt. Mathew J. Deyoung
Sgt. Mathew J. Deyoung, 26, of Talent, Oregon, died Feb. 18, 2011, as a result of a hostile incident while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

Deyoung was an assistant team leader assigned to 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C. He joined the Marine Corps in November 2004 and was promoted to the rank of sergeant June 1, 2008.

He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from January 2006 to August 2006 and again from October 2007 to May 2008. Most recently, he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in November 2010.

His awards include the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

Deyoung is survived by his wife and child.
