US Army Specialist Ryan P. Jayne, from Campbell, New York was one of three soldiers killed when a roadside bomb exploded in Paktia province, eastern Afghanistan.
22-year-old Spc. Jayne was a combat engineer serving with the 178th Engineer Battalion, 412th Theater Engineer Command, based at Oswego, New York.
Spc. Jayne had just returned to Afghanistan after 10 days leave at home.
The other two soldiers killed in the blast were: Staff Sergeant Dain Venne and Spc. Brett Gornewicz
