Norwegian, Andreas Eldjarn

Andreas Eldjarn

Norwegian Navy Quartermaster, Andreas Eldjarn, aged 21, from Tromso, was one of four Norwegian military personnel killed in Afghanistan on 27th June 2010.

The four personnel were all in the same car driving along a road in the Faryab province when a roadside bomb was detonated by Taliban insurgents.

The four men were all fatally wounded in the attack.

QM Eldjarn served with the Coastal Rangers.

Norwegian Grenadier, Joachim Claes Olsson

Joachim Claes Olsson

Norwegian Grenadier, Joachim Claes Olsson, aged 22, and serving with an infantry unit from Norway's Telemark Battalion, was killed 25th January 2010 in Afghanistan.

Grenadier Olsson was commander of a Storm CV9030 tank and was driving in a column of other military vehicles when a roadside bomb detonated.

They on their way to meet soldiers from the Afghan army to conduct joint patrols in the area.

The incident happened in the Ghowrmach district of northern Afghanistan.

Norwegian Captain, Trond Petter Kolset

Captain Trond Petter Kolset

Norwegian officer, Captain Trond Petter Kolset, aged 30 and serving with Military Intelligence, was killed 17th April 2009 in Maymana, Afghanistan.

Captain Kolset, who had been in Afghanistan only one month, was riding in a car on his way to camp when a suicide bomber drove a car packed with explosives straight at the column of Norwegian vehicles.

He was airlifted by helicopter to a German Field Hospital at Mazar-i-Sharif.

Norwegian Private, Kristopher Sorli Jørgensen

Kristopher Sorli Jørgensen

Norwegian Private, Kristopher Sorli Jørgensen, aged 22, and serving with the Norwegian Home Guard was killed by a roadside bomb whilst on patrol 8th November 2008

The incident happened about 8km from Meymaneh.

Pvt. Jørgensen was attached to the Norwegian Command in Meymaneh.

Norwegian officer, Lt. Tor Arne Lau-Henriksen

Lt. Tor Arne Lau-Henriksen

Norwegian officer, Lieutenant Tor Arne Lau-Henriksen, aged 33, was killed in action on 23rd July 2007.

He joined Hærens Jegerkommando (Army Ranger Commando) before he went to Afghanistan. During a mission there, Lau-Henriksen was killed by insurgents. 

He and other Norwegian soldiers were on a reconnaissance mission together with soldiers from the Afghan National Army, when they were attacked by Taliban members dressed as civilians. 

Lau-Henriksen was shot in the chest and became the first soldier from Hærens Jegerkommando to be KIA in Afghanistan. He was posthumously awarded the Military Cross.

Grenadier, Tommy Roedningsby

Norwegian Grenadier, Tommy Roedningsby, aged 29, was killed on 23rd May 2004 after Taliban insurgents ambushed a convoy of four vehicles.

The insurgents opened fire with rocket propelled grenades and small arms. One of three RPG shells fired missed the convoy. Another landed without detonating. The third shell, however, hit the rear of an unarmoured Merceded field vehicle fatally wounding Grenadier Roedningsby.

The incident happened in Kabul.
