US Army Captain Michael Newton

US Army Captain Michael W. Newton from Newport News, Virginia, died on 11th June 2011 in Faryab province, Afghanistan, from injuries sustained in a non-combat related incident.

Capt. Newton, age 30, served with the 1st Battalion, 84th Field Artillery Regiment, 170th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, based in Baumholder, Germany. He joined the Army in 2004, deployed twice to Iraq (2006 and 2009) and spent time in South Korea.

He was a battery commander fluent in Spanish and French, and he was finishing a degree in international relations through the University of Oklahoma.

Capt. Newton leaves his parents, Barbara and Willie.

U.S Army Sergeant Michael S. Lammerts

U.S Army Sergeant Michael S. Lammerts, aged 26, from Tonawanda, New York was killed on 4th April 2011 by small arms fire while engaging enemy forces in Faryab province, Afghanistan.

Sgt. Lammerts was part of the 1st Battalion, 84th Field Artillery Regiment, 170th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, based in Baumholder, Germany.

He had been in Afghanistan just over a month and had previously served in Iraq twice.

He leaves his wife, Melissa, and two children, Savannah, 3, and Michael, one and a half. He is also survived by his parents, a brother and a sister.

U.S Army Sergeant Scott H. Burgess, aged 32, from Franklin, Texas was killed on 4th April 2011 by small arms fire while engaging enemy forces in Faryab province, Afghanistan.

Sgt. Burgess was part of the 1st Battalion, 84th Field Artillery Regiment, 170th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, based in Baumholder, Germany.

Norwegian Navy Lieutenant Christian Lian, aged 31, from Kristiansand, was one of four Norwegian military personnel killed in Afghanistan on 27th June 2010.

The four personnel were all in the same car driving along a road in the Faryab province when a roadside bomb was detonated by Taliban insurgents.

The four men were all fatally wounded in the attack.

Lt. Lian served with the Coastal Rangers.

Norwegian Navy Commander, Trond Andre Bolle, aged 41, from Lena, was one of four Norwegian military personnel killed in Afghanistan on 27th June 2010.

The four personnel were all in the same car driving along a road in the Faryab province when a roadside bomb was detonated by Taliban insurgents.

The four men were all fatally wounded in the attack.

Lt. Commander Bolle served with Norwegian Naval Command.
