| L-Cpl. Maung Htaik |
U.S Marine, Lance-Corporal Maung P. Htaik, aged 20, from Hagerstown, Maryland, died on 1st January 2011 in Helmand, whilst conducting combat operations in the area.
He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Lance Corporal Mauang P. Htaik, also known as Samuel to his friends, had moved with his family from Myanmar (Burma) to the United States in 2002, in order to be have a better education. He graduated in 2008, and was a distinguished honor roll student at Smithsburg High School.
In February of 2009, he joined the Marines. He was promoted to Lance Cpl. in April of 2010.
