US Army Major Robert J. Marchanti II of the Maryland Army National Guard was killed on 25th February 2012 at the Afghan Interior Ministry in Kabul.
48-year-old Major Marchanti served with the 1st Battalion, 29th Infantry Division Security Partnering Team. He had been working since September as a mentor to the Afghan National Police. This was his first deployment to Afghanistan.

He joined the Army in 1984 and the Maryland National Guard in 1986. He leaves his wife, four children and a grandson.
Robert Marchanti was a great man and made this world a better place. Bob will be remembered as a loving father and husband and a loyal and trustworthy friend. Bob's love for his Saviour was real and those around him knew it. Bob served those around him. Bob I will not forget you. Goodbye my friend. If only the coward that took your life had looked into your eyes first...
