French Army soldier 1st Class Enguerrand Libaert, aged 20, was killed in action on 9th February 2010 when he was hit by enemy small-arms fire during a combat operation in Kapisa.
He joined the Army in October 2008 and served with the 13th Alpine Battalion. He deployed to Afghanistan with his unit in December 2009 and in February departed on a mission to support a logistics convoy of the Afghan Army in the Alasay valley. It was during this mission that the unit engaged with enemy forces, and he was declared "killed in action".
