Soldier killed during enemy attack in eastern Afghanistan

KABUL: A NATO/ISAF soldier was killed in eastern Afghanistan earlier today - 23rd January 2013 - after an enemy attack on a joint patrol.

The soldier was named as Polish Commando Captain Krzysztof Woźniak.

US soldier killed in eastern Afghanistan

An American military service member was killed today - 10th January 2013 - during an insurgent attack in eastern Afghanistan.

The soldier has been named by the US Department of Defense as Sergeant Aaron X. Wittman from 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment.

ISAF soldier killed in eastern Afghanistan

KABUL: A NATO/ISAF soldier died today, Monday 24th December, following an insurgent attack in eastern Afghanistan.

No further details have been released as yet, but it is confirmed that this incident is not related to an earlier shooting at Kabul Police HQ.

US Commando killed during hostage rescue mission

A US Navy SEAL was killed on 8th December during a mission to rescue kidnapped American doctor, Dilip Joseph. The hostage was successfully rescued.

In a statement from the White House, President Barack Obama said that in carrying out the raid in eastern Afghanistan, the commando team had shown "the selfless service that allows our nation to stay strong, safe and free."

The US soldiers killed seven Taliban insurgents in the pre-dawn raid that was launched when intelligence showed that the hostage was in "imminent danger of injury or death", NATO's International Security Assistance Force said in a statement.

The US Department of Defense later named the serviceman as Petty Officer 1st Class Nicolas D. Checque.

US Army Sergeant Matthew Stiltz

US Army Sergeant Matthew H. Stiltz, from Washington, was killed on 12th November 2012 by enemy artillery fire at the town of Zerok, close to the Pakistan border.

26-year-old Sgt. Stiltz served with the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, based at Fort Riley, Kansas.

He had served two tours in Iraq and had been in Afghanistan on this current deployment since June.


He joined the Army in 2005 after graduating from Shadle Park High School, Spokane. He was repatriated to Dover Air Force Base on 13th November.

Two NATO troops killed - 4 August

KABUL (4th August 2011): Two NATO/ISAF service members were killed in eastern Afghanistan today in separate incidents.

One was shot and killed by an individual wearing an Afghan National Police uniform. The other was killed in an insurgent attack at a different location.

KABUL, 28th July 2011: A NATO/ISAF service member was killed today in eastern Afghanistan after an improvised explosive device detonated. No further details are available at this time.

KABUL (9th July 2011): a NATO/ISAF service member and a ISAF civilian were killed following an attack in eastern Afghanistan today. The incident is under investigation.

Four NATO/ISAF troops were killed today, 5th July 2011, in eastern Afghanistan. Three were killed by a bomb blast and the fourth was killed in a separate incident.

4 US Alaska-based troops killed eastern Afghanistan

Four Alaska-based soldiers were killed in an explosion in Afghanistan earlier today, the Army announced.

The soldiers, who have not yet been identified, were from the 3rd Maneuver Enhancement Brigade at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, said a statement from Army spokesman Bill Coppernoll.

The soldiers "were killed by an improvised explosive device in Laghman Province, Afghanistan at about 10 a.m. today (Afghanistan time) while conducting a mounted patrol," the statement said.
