German officer Hauptmann Markus Matthes

German Army Captain Markus Matthes, age 33, was killed by a bomb blast in Kunduz on 25th May 2011.

The officer was part of an armoured patrol in the region. Two bombs were detonated beside the convoy damaging three vehicles.

Capt. Matthes served with the Special Operations Division.

Two German soldiers were injured in the same attack.

U.S Army Spc. Christopher Stark

Spc. Christopher G. Stark
Army Specialist, Christopher G. Stark, aged 22, from Monett, Montana, was killed by the blast from an imporovised explosive devise (IED). He died 28th February 2011. The incident happened in Wardak province, Afghanistan.

He was assigned to the 63rd Explosive Ordnance Disposal Battalion, 20th Support Command, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.

In the same incident, his colleague, Staff Sgt. Chauncy Mays also died.

Polish soldier, Kazimierz Kasprzak

In the early hours of 27th September 2010, Sergeant Kazimierz Kasprzak died from wounds sustained in the explosion of the roadside bomb. 

The incident happened in the eastern part of Ghazni province. Troops of the Bravo Combat Team were attacked while performing a combat patrol. Sgt. Kasprzak was injured in the attack. 

Despite immediate  medical aid provided, he died from his injuries.

Sgt. Kazimierz Kasprzak served in the 15th Goldap Anti-aircraft Regiment. He was 32, and leaves a wife and two children. 

He becomes the 21st Polish fatality in Afghanistan.

Dutch soldier killed by roadside bomb

A DUTCH soldier serving in Afghanistan was killed on 19th December 2008 by a roadside bomb during a fire-fight with the Taliban.

The country's armed forces chief, General Peter van Uhm, said Sergeant Mark Weijdt, 24, died after stepping on the explosive device in the Baluchi Valley, north-east of the joint Dutch-Australia base at Tarin Kowt in the southern province of Oruzgan. Another soldier was slightly wounded.

Finnish soldier, Sgt Petri Immonen, killed by roadside bomb

Finnish Border Guard, Sergeant Petri Tapio Immonen, 29,was killed 23rd May 2007 when a roadside bomb detonated near a patrol escorting members of Provincial Reconstruction Team Maymaneh in northern Afghanistan.
