Estonian Army Corporal Agris Hutrof killed in action

Estonian Army Corporal Agris Hutrof was killed in action during a firefight with enemy forces in Helmand province on 15th October 2011.

25-year-old Cpl. Hutrof, who was injured seriously during the battle, died after he was transferred to a field hospital. He joined the army as a conscript in 2008 and then opted to turn professional, and had been serving in Afghanistan since May 2011.

Three other Estonian soldiers were also wounded in the incident.

Two Estonian soldiers killed

Two Estonian soldiers were killed in Afghanistan on 23rd August while carrying out their duties.

The soldiers were Sgt. Maj. Eerik Salmus (26) and Sgt. Raivis Kang (26), pioneers of the Estonian Estcoy-8 infantry company.

Estonian soldier killed in ambush

Estonia's Defense Ministry says an Estonian soldier has been killed in southern Afghanistan.
The ministry says Master Sgt. Allain Tikko, 30, was killed 15th June after his unit was ambushed by insurgents in Helmand province. Estonia has now lost four soldiers in Afghanistan.
The death comes just days after Estonia pledged to send an additional 140 troops to Afghanistan, doubling the Baltic country's presence there.

In recent weeks insurgents have gained a stronghold in Helmand province, which is now considered to be the most violent in Afghanistan.

Estonian soldier dies in accident

An Estonian non-commissioned officer who sustained heavy injuries in an accident in Afghanistan's southern Helmand province on the evening of May 23rd died in hospital in the night.

Sgt. Maj. Ivar Brok, 30, serving in the support unit NSE-5 of the Estonian contingent in Afghanistan, sustained life-threatening injuries in an accident that happened in the course of loading works at the Camp Bastion base, the General Staff here reports. Brok was loading equipment of the infantry platoon ESTCOY-6 onto trucks when a wheel of a Pasi armoured personnel carrier escaped and rolled on him. Such a wheel weighs several hundred kilograms.

Two Estonian soldiers killed in missile attack

Two Estonian soldiers were killed in a missile attack in Afghanistan on June 23 - the nation's first casualties in the NATO-led mission.

The two men, members of the Estonian mine clearance team, were attacked with a 107 mm missile during their lunch break in the Sangin Valley in the Helmand Province of southern Afghanistan.

Sgt. Kalle Torn, 24, the assistant commander of the ordnance disposal team, and Jn. Sgt. Jako Karuks, 33, the driver of the team, were named as the deceased.
