US Navy Petty Officer Paris Pough

US Navy Petty Officer First Class Paris S. Pough, age 40, from Columbus, Georgia, died on 17th February 2012 during a port visit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

PO Pough, a hull technician, was assigned to the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), home-ported in San Diego, California which was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan.

US Navy Petty Officer Chad Regelin

24-year-old US Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Chad R. Regelin, from California, was killed in action during a combat operation in Helmand on 2nd January 2012. He died after being caught in the blast of an insurgent bomb.

PO Regelin served as a bomb disposal technician with Marine Special Operations Company Bravo. He was stationed at the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 3, San Diego, California.

PO Regelin's family told local news that he was killed just an hour after he’d spoken to his family by telephone. His parents, Shirene and Scott Regelin of Anderson, were notified of his death shortly after 2 p.m.

"He called us while he was on watch," PO Regelin's brother, Justin, said. "He was really upbeat because he had just gotten his orders to come back stateside on Feb. 15. He told us that he had about a week to go (in Kandahar) before they could helicopter in the replacement team."

US Navy Chief Petty Officer Raymond Border

US Navy Chief Petty Officer Raymond J. Border, died on 19th October 2011 during a mission to assess a route in Paktika province. He was serving with a provincial reconstruction team.

31-year-old CPO Border, from Ohio, was based in Gulfport, Mississippi with Navy Mobile Construction Battalion 74. He had been in the Navy for 12 years and had previously served in Iraq and Afghanistan. This was his second deployment to Afghanistan.

His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 times), the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal and the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, among others.

CPO Border leaves his parents, Craig and Julie Border, children Donovan and Shelva, two siblings and his fiancé, among other relatives and friends.

US Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer Michael Tatham

33-year-old US Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer Michael R. Tatham, died in a motorcycle accident in Bali, Indonesia whilst on leave from combat operations in Afghanistan.

CPO Tatham, from University Place, Washington, served with a West Coast-based Naval Special Warfare Unit. A native of Fayetteville, North Carolina, CPO Tatham was a highly decorated Special Forces member with combat experience in Iraq and Afghanistan.

His military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with combat “V,” Joint Service Achievement Medal, four Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medals including one with “V,” two Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, three Sea Service Deployment Ribbons and NATO Service Medal, along with the expert rifle and expert pistol ribbons.

He is survived by his parents and a younger brother.

US Navy SEAL Petty Officer 1st Class Caleb Nelson

US Navy Petty Officer 1st Class (SEAL) Caleb A. Nelson, from Omaha, Nebraska, was killed on 1st October 2011 when the patrol vehicle he was in struck a road mine in Zabul province.

26-year-old PO1 Nelson, father of two boys, served with the Naval Special Warfare Unit, based in Virginia. He had graduated from SEAL training in 2006 and had served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Captain Tim Szymanski, commander of Nelson's unit said: “Caleb Nelson was a cherished teammate, a gifted SEAL operator, and a loving husband and father. His tireless professionalism, inspiring passion for life and his humble and selfless service to our country made him a role model for all who knew him.”

He is survived by his wife, two sons and his parents.

US Navy Petty Officer Brian Lundy

25-year-old US Navy Petty Officer Brian K. Lundy from Austin, Texas, died on Friday 9th September 2011 from injuries received when a bomb exploded while he was conducting a dismounted patrol in Marjah, Helmand province.

PO Lundy was serving as a combat medic with the 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, based at Camp Lejeune.

He joined the Navy in 2006 and earned the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He also received the Navy “E” Ribbon for his service aboard the carrier Ronald Reagan, which he served aboard between November 2006 and July 2008.

US Navy Hospitalman Riley Gallinger-Long

19-year-old US Navy Hospitalman Riley Gallinger-Long was killed on 11th August 2011 in Helmand province during a foot patrol with a US Marine unit in Marjah district.

The sailor, from Cornelius, Oregon, graduated from Forest Grove High School last year. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, Regimental Combat Team 1, 2nd Marine Division, based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

US Navy Chief Petty Officer Nicholas H. Null, from West Virginia, was killed in action on 6th August 2011 when the helicopter he was in was shot down by enemy forces in Wardak province, Afghanistan.

The 30-year-old Bomb-disposal technician served with an East-coast based Navy SEAL unit.

US Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Jon T. Tumilson, from Rockford, Iowa, was killed in action on 6th August 2011 when the helicopter he was in was shot down by enemy forces in Wardak province, Afghanistan.

The 35-year-old Special Warfare Operator served with an East-coast based Navy SEAL unit.

The 34-year-old Special Warfare Operator served with an East-coast based Navy SEAL unit.

US Navy Chief Petty Officer Matthew D. Mason, from Kansas City, was killed in action on 6th August 2011 when the helicopter he was in was shot down by enemy forces in Wardak province, Afghanistan.

The 37-year-old Special Warfare Operator served with an East-coast based Navy SEAL unit.

US Navy Chief Petty Officer John W. Faas, from Minneapolis, was killed in action on 6th August 2011 when the helicopter he was in was shot down by enemy forces in Wardak province, Afghanistan.

The 31-year-old Special Warfare Operator served with an East-coast based Navy SEAL unit.

US Navy Petty Officer 1st Class John Douangdara

US Navy Petty Officer 1st Class John Douangdara, from South Sioux City, Nebraska, was killed in action on 6th August 2011 when the helicopter he was in was shot down by enemy forces in Wardak province, Afghanistan.

The 26-year-old Master-at-Arms was the lead dog-handler serving with an East-coast based Navy SEAL unit. His dog, Bart, died with him in the crash.

Petty Officer Douangdara's parents fled Lao and later emigrated to the United States. He enlisted in the Navy in February 2003. Upon completion of his initial training, he served in Sicily. He joined his SEAL team in January 2008.

His awards include the Bronze Star with “V” device, Joint Service Commendation Medal with “V” Device, Army Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3), Rifle Marksmanship Medal, and the Pistol Marksmanship Medal.

US Navy War dog Bart

Bart was a US Navy Special Warfare Operations dog, belonging to the East-coast Navy SEAL team. He was killed in action on 6th August 2011 when the helicopter he was in was shot down by enemy forces in Wardak province, Afghanistan.

Bart died alongside his handler, US Navy Petty Officer 1st Class John Douangdara.

US Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Jared W. Day, from Taylorsville, Utah, was killed in action on 6th August 2011 when the helicopter he was in was shot down by enemy forces in Wardak province, Afghanistan.

The 28-year-old Information Systems Technician served with an East-coast based Navy SEAL unit.

He served with an East-coast based Navy SEAL unit.

The 27-year-old officer served with a West-coast based Navy Special Warfare unit.

US Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Nicholas P. Spehar, from Minnesota, was killed in action on 6th August 2011 when the helicopter he was in was shot down by enemy forces in Wardak province, Afghanistan.

The 24-year-old officer served with a West-coast based Navy Special Warfare unit.

US Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Kraig M. Vickers, from Hawaii, was killed in action on 6th August 2011 when the helicopter he was in was shot down by enemy forces in Wardak province, Afghanistan.

The 36-year-old was an Expeditionary Warfare Specialist/Freefall Parachutist and a Bomb-disposal technician serving with an East-coast based Navy SEAL unit.
